- Detroit, Michigam
- 736,000 SF
- 455 guest rooms
The existing thirty-two story Book Cadillac building has been renovated into a combined Westin Hotel & Banquet Center and Westin-branded Condominiums development. The Westin Book-Cadillac Hotel contains 455 rooms and is flagged as a full-service Westin. The 736,000 SF building contains three ballrooms, two of which - The Grand Ballroom and the Italian Garden - have been restored to their original condition. The third, an 11,000 SF ballroom with seating capacity of one thousand, has been constructed in an addition to the north side of the Hotel. Overall, the Hotel offers more than 39,000 SF of event and conference space, making it the premier venue in the metropolitan Detroit area. The Westin Book-Cadillac also houses a high-end restaurant by "Iron Chef", Michael Symon; a restaurant/bar; coffee shop; and service retail, all with convenient access from the hotel lobby and the street. The overall hard construction costs for the Hotel and Condominiums Renovation and Expansion are approximately $110 Million.
The top seven floors of the Westin Book-Cadillac Hotel were reserved for the 67 premium condominium units with exceptional views of the city and the Detroit River. This $11 Million Condominium Project consists of 92,000 SF of living area. Per unit areas range from 925 to 4,700 SF and include both single and multi-story deluxe penthouse units. In some units existing mansard roofs and roof top ziggurat space were incorporated into interesting floor plans for the high-end prospective buyers. KAI carefully coordinated these premium, custom living units with all Hotel infrastructure, historic preservation concerns, and executive real estate objectives.
Located on Washington Boulevard in Detroit, Michigan, the Westin Book-Cadillac Hotel has been listed on the National Register of Historic Buildings and has been renovated according to National Park Service standards. It was lauded by Starwood directors as the "Jewel of the Westins."
The Westin Book-Cadillac has been recognized with numerous awards including the "Honor Award" by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, "AIA Ohio Merit Award", the "Traveling Gun - Renovation Project of the Year" by the Northern Ohio Chapter of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties, the "Governor's Award" for Historic Preservation from the State of Michigan, and the "Gold Award" designated by Building Design + Construction Magazine for Reconstruction Projects.
